Datastrip found an ideal partner in PTA Corp when they wanted to
design a mobile identity verification reader. Starting at the conceptual
stage, PTA, Nexus Design and Datastrip worked together to
create an award-winning security device that combines a variety
of functions in a cost-efficient handheld unit.
Datastrip is the leading provider of software, hardware and biometric
verification devices. The DSVII-SC provides mobile identity verification
in locations where there is no permanent equipment
available. Weighing just 2 pounds, the DSVII-SC contains a smart
card reader, fingerprint sensor, and large color digital touchscreen.
- PTA worked closely with Datastrip and Nexus Design
throughout the entire development cycle, providing technical
and scheduling support.
- The low volume run required a high level of creativity
to minimize tooling costs. PTA suggested a program of
aluminum molds combined with pressure sensitive
Santoprene adhesive grips during assembly to give the
appearance and texture of overmolding while keeping the
units within the designated price point. (view 2)
- PTA fulfilled all requirements on speed, quality and
cost. Three 2-cavity family molds were built and ready for
sampling within the 6-week timetable, all parts met
inspection, and per unit costs satisfied the pricing criteria.

- This was the first time Datastrip worked with PTA. The
DSCVII-SC won the New Biometric Product of the Year
Award at the Security Industry Association's annual
conference in recognition of its speed, versatility and
practical applications.
