In supporting early vendor involvement, PTA worked with Bleck
Design to meet Network Engines' objectives for low cost bezels
with exciting color options. When Network Engines achieved
critical success in the Web Engine product launch, they contracted
with PTA to deliver production ready parts within six weeks.
Network Engines provides high density, scalable Internet server
appliances that support large web based applications for web
providers. Their rack mounted 1U appliances offer numerous
choices of hardware and software to address server, administration,
and storage solutions so that e-businesses can quickly
deliver high volumes of information.
- PTA proposed thermal assembly of all the bezel
components via a single operation as a low cost method
of production.
- Molds were built directly from ProE databases,
incorporating complicated shapes throughout.
- With PTA's ability to run simultaneous operations, the
aggressive delivery schedule was fulfilled. The four steel
molds were completed while finishing operations, such
as pad printing and thermal assembly, were refined. The
finished parts were molded out of GE's LexanŽ Polycarbonate.
- The Web Engine product family won the Bronze IDEA
in the Industrial Design Excellence Awards Competition
sponsored by the Industrial Designers Society of America
and Business Week magazine.
